Closer to Africa than Spain the atmosphere on the island is most definitely Spanish.
Tenerife is the largest of all the Canary Islands at(2034sq km) and and at(3718m)the highest in the Canary archipelago.
The name "Tenerife" means (snow covered mountain) it is also referred to as the island with two faces with a north-south divide. Mt Tiede at12,200 feet is the highest mountain (volcano) on the island and the highest in all the archipelago and it's top is covered in snow. A cable car ride to the summit offers unrivaled views of the lunar like landscapes of volcanic rock and slopes. The view is simply breathtaking from the peak, on a crystal clear day all the different volcanic rock can be seen clearly as a natural life pallet of colors ranging from green, black, beige, with hues of orange and rust and ochre.
The climate is almost perfect with very little change in temperature from winter to summer varying between 15c -24c and with very little rain,you will find beautiful lush forests in the northern part of the island and with mountains,volcanoes, deserts,spectacular beaches of black volcanic sand and exotic animal and plant life, a paradise for every one from the beach lover to the adventurer.If you like adventure and exploration and enjoy some exercise you may want to take a walk along one of the less populated stretches of the beautiful shoreline, experience swimming and sunbathing on these beautiful beaches knowing just a few miles away is the glistening snow capped mountain of Mt Tiede.
Tenerife is also popular for water sports such as surfing and fishing you could also enjoy climbing, hiking,cycling, para gliding or just photography or any of the out door pursuits than help you experience and benefit from this wonderful landscape and climate.
